INVESTMENT CASTING
Wax is injected into a metal mold, cooled, and removed. Waxes are mounted on wax sprues (trees) and dipped in ceramic multiple times to create a shell. Wax is removed by steam autoclave, shell is fired, and molten metal poured into it. When cooled, the shell is broken to remove the parts.
- All castable metal alloys
- Near net shape dimensions
- Can eliminate many secondary operations
- Excellent surface finish, typical 125 RMS
- Thin walls, little or no draft required
- Ounces to 2000 lbs.
- Low to medium tooling costs
- 1 to 1000s of parts
